SCP rents new office building in tsunami-safe zone of Padang
In order to ensure the safety of all people visiting and working with SCP in Padang, a new office building has now been rented. The building was chosen according to specifications of an SCP-internal disaster risk assessment for the region.
It is located on higher ground (more than 30 m a.s.l.) and more than 5 km inland, ensuring that a potential future Tsuanmi wave cannot reach the building. Furthermore, a 1-storey-building was chosen, because experience from September 2009 showed that these constructions exhibited the least (if any) earthquake-related damage.
It is expected that the new building will be operational by the end of March after some limited construction work is finished and a connection to the telephone network established.
