[02. Okt. 2009] Major earthquake close to Padang (West Sumatra)
With a magnitude of 7.6 (according to the U.S Geological Survey), the earthquake caused widespread disruption to power and phone supplies, making it difficult for authorities and aid organizations to evaluate damage in the city which is home to more than 800,000 people.
According to latest figures (Oct 2nd) more than 400 people are thought to have died in the quake.
Fortunately, no-one from SCP´s staff was injured and although several buildings in the surroundings of the SCP office collapsed, our office itself was not badly damaged.
